My name is Tim Zhao. I was born on the 3rd of December in 2007, and I am of Chinese nationality. I love to study and push myself to go beyond what is expected of and taught to us at school, seeking knowledge for the wonders it can introduce to you and the joy of knowing, as well as to satisfy my own instrinsic thirst for knowledge. Outside of school, I like to study mathematics and science on my own, and also create my own technologies and small engineering projects. Some examples of the things I have created include a custom version of Linux, an Android tablet, a carbon fiber 1/10 scale RC model F1 car, and more. Due to these hobbies, I have developed considerable skills in software, mechanical, and electrical engineering, as well as some skills in some other areas such as CAD, electronic art, and general programming. These are my favorite subjects, but I have other dear passions like music and sports. I thoroughly enjoy music, and after years of study and practice I am proficient in 3 instruments: guitar, piano, and drum kit. This has enabled me to play in many bands, and also start recording some of my own musical ideas that I hope to release in the future. Sports are also dearly loved by me, with my 3 favorites being martial arts (Wing Chun), tennis, and basketball.
Who Am I?
What I like to do.
As previously mentioned, my favorite and strongest subjects are technology, science, engineering, and mathematics. Ever since a young age, I have been building and programming my own engineering projects like solar-powered RC cars, Android tablets, and more. Furthermore, in my free time, I like to study science and mathematics while coming up with my own ideas and theories about these subjects as I learn about them. For example, when I read about how a magnetic field can cause a charged particle to move in a circular motion, I came up with the idea of trying to stop a charged particle from moving altogether using magnetic fields, and I went as far as trying to prove my idea with the math.
I have some other passions as well, primarily in music and sports. Music is something that is quite special for me, because it has turned from a family expectation to a hobby that brings me pure joy and relaxation. I play the guitar, piano, and drum set to proficient levels, enabling me to form bands with my friends and perform in my local area. I also like to record some musical ideas I have, and I wish to share these recordings sometime in the future. I am also a big believer in a balanced life, so not only do I like and focus on STEM and music, I also thoroughly enjoy sports. These include soccer, basketball, tennis, martial arts, rock climbing, and sailing. Aside from just being personal hobbies, these sports are what I use to ensure that my lifestyle is balanced between mind and body.
Hopes, dreams, goals.
Short Term Goal:
My short term goal as of 2022 is to go to university at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Ever since visiting all of the famous universities in the US when I was 8 years old, I had set my sights on MIT. Back then, entering the school grounds felt like entering the realm where the edges of science and technology were easily crossed and the theoretical unknown became concrete knowledge. It was then and there I realized where my dream university was, and I have been working hard ever since to achieve this dream.
Long Term Goal:
This is the long-term goal that I have held close to my heart ever since I set it, and I am sure that this goal will be a lifetime companion to me. It is to change the world for the better through STEM. The world we live in is full of problems, ranging from energy to global warming to pandemics to diseases and sicknesses. I know that these problems can be solved through the power of STEM, and so the goal that which I hold most dear to my heart is to fix the world's problems through the power of my favorite subjects: technology, science, engineering, mathematics, and imagination.
Beliefs.
As mentioned before, I am a big believer in living a balanced lifestyle, for I believe that a strong mind needs a strong body, and vice versa. Thus, I do not only like to study and ponder upon scholarly topics, I also love sports. Furthermore, I am also a big believer in self-discpline, and I constantly tell myself that "the seeds of laziness are probably born in the hearts of every person, however those who can combat these seeds and stop them from growing are truly strong", which is a little something I came up with to make sure that I won't step out of line and start being lazy. Similarly, self-control over temper, desires and such is also something that I exercise on myself constantly, for I believe that the greatest joy in life and perhaps hardest thing to do in life is to fully be able to control yourself. This has helped me push myself to my limit everyday, and to ensure that I spend everyday being productive and efficient, and not wasting time by slacking.
