"As summer’s end closes in, entrepreneurs from Zhuhai International School travelled to Foshan in late July to attend the ASDAN World Economic Youth Forum (WYEF) Business Simulation National Finals 2022.

Preparation for the 4-day competition began over a week prior to going to Foshan. The product design and artistic design groups went through the constant cycle of making drafts and revising them, while the operation group strived to understand the logic and math behind the operating rules in order to maximize profit in the operation rounds. Preparation also included determining marketing strategies, creating a 3D model of our product, rehearsing for the talent show performance, material/props preparation, and more. Thanks to our well-rounded team, everyone was able to focus on preparing the parts of the competition that aligned within the scope of each team members’ personal skills and interests.

Our company was named E-Generation (“EG” for short), and throughout a competition composed of 3 presentation tasks, 7 operation rounds and some other business activities, the students put their heads down and funneled all their concentration towards the completion of all tasks with perfection. The creative booth design, detailed presentations, and smooth delivery allowed E-Generation to win first place consecutively in all 3 presentation tasks, and to achieve the awards of:

  1. Mobility Innovator Award
  2. Outstanding Booth Design Award
  3. Partnership Excellence Award
  4. Global Entrepreneurship Award
  5. Best Entrepreneurship Award

Although the members of E-Generation already knew which awards they would be given, excitement and proudness still flowed from deep within their hearts as days of hard work finally paid off. All of the members of E-Generation stood at the center of the stage, enjoying the rounds of applause, cheering, and camera lights, savoring not only their achievements but also the hard work behind it. As a rookie team in their first ever ASDAN WYEF Business Simulation, E-Generation defeated many experienced opponents, exceeding their own expectations and making the event a memorable and impactful experience."

The above is what I translated for the school newsletter when they wished to post about the event, and the article gives a good overview of the competition. Nonetheless, here are my personal thoughts:

Considering that I was part of the product design group, we were tasked with creating a product that had powerful key selling points, corresponded with our brand identity, and possessed good aesthetics. This had to be done in less than 2 weeks' worth of time, and not only that, we had to also create a physical prototype of our product as well. This entire process wasn't easy, but it definitely strengthened my Solidworks skills and also made me appreciate how good ideas and drawings from my friends could be.

Designs of the car interior, drawn by a friend of mine who was part of the team.

Solidworks exterior design, by me.

Business Simulation needed a lot of talking as well, and that definitely strengthened my presentation skills. After business simulation, I felt immense confidence every time I stepped onstage to talk about something, which I believe is one of the most valuable things I have taken away from the competition.

Me (talking) and the presentation group talking to "investors" about how we plan to make our brand global.

The entire experience was incredibly fun and busy, and it strengthened a lot of my skills and developed new ones as well. After 4 days of tiring work, we won a good few awards too, which made it all the more awesome:
